AMLO seeks impunity in reform of the judiciary!!
Opinion
A few days before the end of his government, the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López, is pressuring the outgoing congress, the incoming one that will begin on September 1, as well as his successor Claudia Sheinbaum to approve a series of reforms to the constitution that include a reform of the judiciary and the disappearance of various autonomous bodies such as the INAI. the COFECE and the IFT, among others, which according to him are useless.
In a perverse and fallacious way, the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, urges Congress to carry out his long-awaited reform of the judiciary that mainly seeks to have judges, ministers and magistrates elected by the "popular vote". But when referring to that great popular vote, he refers to his followers who are mostly unprepared, uninformed, who have no idea what they are going to elect and of course they would vote for whoever López tells them to. Added to this is the risk that organized crime will intervene to impose judges and magistrates.
To manipulate public opinion and convince them that it is necessary to reform it, López Obrador has used to construct his narrative by pointing out the flaws of the judiciary. However, he does not talk about the budget; A real change to the judiciary requires a lot of money to invest in more personnel, infrastructure and equipment. Behind the reform of the judiciary is evident his desire to continue to have interference in the government that is about to begin and that he himself imposed with impunity from power, and of course to erase the possibility of a prosecution against him, that is to say this reform will provide impunity to López Obrador and his close associates and also to the Sheinbaum government. because having a judicial power subject to the executive power, it will not even be possible to try to denounce abuses of power, violation of human rights and corruption. Let's remember that it is a government that has conducted itself with a lot of opacity, it has managed billions and billions of dollars at its discretion billions and billions of dollars in the dark, they eliminated the tenders and made the purchases directly; they reserved for five years the information of their pharaonic works such as the AIFA, the Mayan train and the 2 Bocas Refinery with the argument that they are of national security. These projects are of poor quality, very expensive and do not work properly. Likewise, there is various evidence and testimonies that link him to organized crime and that indicate that he would have received money from drug traffickers for his movement that he financed for 18 years before becoming president of Mexico.
For the time being, this intransigent and authoritarian stance of the president of Mexico has made the markets nervous, capital has left the country and the peso has depreciated against the dollar, reaching almost 20 pesos per unit. As if that were not enough, and in his own words, López "paused" his diplomatic relations with the ambassadors of the United States and Canada, because they made statements in which they show their concern about these reforms that will impact the economy and put trade relations between these three countries on edge.
Despite criticism from U.S. and Canadian ambassadors, businessmen and academics, they are pressing ahead with their plan. On August 27, the Commission on Constitutional Points of the Chamber of Deputies approved the opinion of the reform of the judiciary and it is expected that next week when the new legislature is installed it will be taken to the plenary for approval, meanwhile the personnel who work in the judicial branch of the federation throughout the country carry out an indefinite work stoppage in protest against this reform.
The party created by López Obrador, Morena, already has the executive power and a qualified majority in the chamber of deputies, so this reform of the judiciary will cause autocratic and authoritarian power without counterweights, which could lead to an authoritarian government, even a dictatorship.
